Control Your Mind, Control Your Life

One of the major keys of life is being able to control your mind. Gaining control of your mind is a skill.

Your mind is the most powerful tool you have for the creation of good in your life, but it can also be a destructive force in your life if it's not controlled correctly.

Controlling your thoughts means influencing the way you live your life.

How Do You Control Your Mind?

To answer that question we are featuring an interview with a special guest, Matt Choi. Matt is a personal trainer based in Montgomery Country. He also played college football so he is very familiar with the life of an athlete. You can find his Instagram at @mattchoi_6

Q: Why is mindset so important?

A: It's so important. Everyone has control of it because it's their own thought. When you have your own internal decision to be positive or negative. You need to figure out what's going in your head to make you go negative. What's creating those limiting beliefs.

There's something in your mind telling you "I'm not good enough." Somebody planted that seed in your head whether it was your parents, insecurities from childhood, or even friends. Once you figure out what is the limitation that is blocking you from achieving greatness/success, it becomes much easier to pursue what you want to pursue. Once you get that clarity, then you can really start living your life.

Q: How do people become more growth-minded and positive?

A: I think that's something that it's an internal decision that we all have to make. Most people are not positive or optimistic because they're hurt inside there. They don't like what they do, they have family issues, like whatever it might be, but most people that are hurt

So for me, it's about controlling my own emotions and energy that I have. because time doesn't stop for anyone, right? So time continues to move. No matter how bad last year was, each day still moves on. So how can we, as people control what happens in our own head, heart, and body? That's something that we can control.

Q: You talked about people who are hurt, in your opinion what can they do to change their lives?

A: Okay, they might be hurt. Yeah, but what should they do to change that mindset, right? It honestly starts with themselves. In my personal life, I've had experiences where I tried to change the way a friend or family member thought and it just didn't work.

One of my favorite quotes is "You can bring a horse to water but you can't force it to drink". You can bring your friend to the edge of the water because they've been dehydrated for 30 days. They need to rehydrate themselves because they're gonna die from not having any water in their system.

You can tell them all the reasons they need to drink that water, but if they personally want to do it for themselves it doesn't matter. There needs to be a wake-up call and a desire to change.

Q: What was the wake-up call for you that made you think to open your mind and think differently?

A: I'm a big believer that, you gotta go through things and you've got to try things, you gotta taste it and figure it out for yourself. I worked in Corporate America and I quickly realized I had an athlete mentality of like hard work, accountability, and discipline.

I was putting a lot of energy and time into this corporation, how much was I really getting reciprocated? How much did I get back from that energy and that time and the commitment I was putting in? That's what made me realize I could just put all my time and energy into my passion. That is why I created my personal training business.

Q: Would you say a lot of people don't have the courage to pursue their own passion?

A: Yeah, I would say so. People can do whatever they set out to do if they have the courage. However, most people never try and I just wanted to try because I view my life as a book. I'm the author and I want to be in control of my story.

The conversation with Matt was very insightful. I think the messages he displayed in this interview can resonate with everyone. Athletes, parents, and even the upcoming young generation. It's never too late or too early to chase a passion.

As he said in the interview everyone's life is like a book. Don't let anyone write your story except for you. You are in the driver's seat of your own journey.
